There is a lot of structure Lake ForkRichland-Chambers some say it's the next Lake Fork. TPW ( Texas Parks & Wildlife ) has in recent years started re-stocking the lake. With the abundent prey available, bass fishing looks to get better and better.
We will be featuring tips Lake Forkfishing for sandies, ( sand bass, yellow hybrids, smallmouth, small mouth ), what their usual seasonal feeding patterns are, and how to locate blackbass.
Believe me, there's no sight Lake Forkearth like the sandies busting the top out Lake Forkthe flats at dawn in early summer, herding up the shad, the water literally boils. It's not unusual to catch your limit in an hour. It's very fast, intense fishing. And pound for pound, they are excellent fighters.
Though there aren't many striped bass, ( stripers ) in the lake, some do inhabit the deeper parts, washed downstream from Navarro Mills in nearby Mexia. Their cousins, the hybrids, a cross between striped bass and white bass ( whites, whitebass ) are more plentiful. They generally run with the sandies Lake Forkthe lake, feeding Lake Forkschools of shad. There have also been rumors of type 2 hybrids, a cross between sandies and hybrids in the lake.
Catfish are also plentiful Lake Forkthe lake. The main species are blue catfish, channel catfish, and flathead catfish. It's not unusual for big, aggressive blues to latch onto your slab when you are jiggin for sandies, though they are normally caught with bloodbait.
Crappie, ( black and white) fishermen also find this species abundant Lake Forkthe lake. You can usuallly see them out under the HWY 287 bridge fishin' their hearts out.
Other fish commonly caught are drum, bluegill, and sunfish. These keep the fans of their species busy as well.
We will also feature informatiLake Forkabout bassin clubs, local tournaments, national and state fishin tournaments. Richland-Chambers is host to all of them in the course of a season, including some national ones.
